Have you ever thought about the power of art? Or about influential art?
What is it, and how does it work?
Artwork can work as an influencer, and the exact artwork can be influenced by something else. The artist has the ability to offer, influence, and even discuss crucial questions.
War – environment – racism – democracy – capitalism – migration – human rights – economy
Because of that, I would say that the main power of art is storytelling.
We can not give a clear and straightforward definition of art because it has more than one form and function, making it unreachable. Regardless, art challenges people to think and act.
It is not possible to predict how art will influence a person.
In her TedTalk about art, Katerina Gregos said:” Therefore one can never predict the ways in which it (art) will affect people, change peoples minds or influence their subsequent behavior as such, its subtle power that changes the world one perception at the time.”
Art has the power to make this world! It enlights people, and its impact shapes our thoughts and impacts our actions. In that way, we can say that art is the moral sense of society.
Authentic artwork should provoke your thoughts about it and encourage you to ask questions.
Art showcases the power of human imagination, dreams, reality, and the future. Within it, art endorses the differences and allows others to speak. We can refer to it as a mirror that reflects our society and world daily.
South African artist Kendel Gear says:” Art shakes the tree, and then all the monkeys fall out.”
We all need art because it teaches us creative thinking and how to step out of the box, so even if you don’t want to become an artist, you need art in your learning practices because it can teach and open views on things that other disciplines can’t.
As artist Tania Bruguera said:” What art education does to a people who are not going to be artists is giving them the opportunity to build certain aspects of themselves that otherwise will be ignored, undeveloped or repressed.”
Please open your eyes to the world of art and let it show you the reality! Then you will see that it is all around us; it’s our culture, visual heritage, and unique language. If other things can fade over time, then art is one of the least that stays.
