Creative and critically thinking are two words that describe the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Drawing and theory lessons, paired with art studio classes, allow you to build your own unique artistic vision.
On the suggestion of an artist, David Teniers the Younger, the Academy was founded in 1663. It is one of the world’s first art schools.
Its teaching programs and research initiatives have achieved international recognition due to its unique historical location in Antwerp. Furthermore, Academy portrays itself as an active participant in the cultural sector.
The Academy includes 4 campuses, exhibition spaces, and a library.
BA & MA program in Visual Arts
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in visual arts include a diverse range of options. Ranging from autonomous creative forms such as painting, sculpture, installation art, printmaking, and photography to more applied arts such as fashion, theatrical costume design, jewellery design, and graphic design.

To apply to the BA program Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp you must fulfill specified requirements (diploma conditions and verify your English knowledge – more information can be found on their website Programme register | AP School Of Arts (ap-arts.be)) and pass the entrance exam.
The entrance exam will be organized two times in 2022. The first session will be on the 4th and 5th of July, 2022. The second session will be on the 1st and 2nd of September, 2022.
Note – One can only participate once per academic year in the artistic entrance exam for a specific specialization and option within the Visual Arts program. It is however possible to participate in the entrance exam for different specializations and options in the same year.
Your creative perception, cultural understanding, originality, talents, and motivation are all evaluated on the artistic entrance exam. This two-day exam includes a variety of assignments as well as an interview during which they will go through your curriculum vitae, possible home assignments, and portfolio.
